A CALL TO ARTISTIC AND EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS

The Martha Graham Dance Company turns 100 in April 2026! We are proud to be the oldest dance company in the United States and hope you – professional companies, university and high school dance departments and K-12 learners — will join us to celebrate this historic milestone.

Our partners and projects will be announced to the press and highlighted on our website and in printed materials about GRAHAM100. We hope to connect and celebrate with dancers around the world! As you look ahead to the 25/26 season, we hope you will consider partnering with Graham. Here are just a few possibilities…

RESTAGE A GRAHAM CLASSIC

We are able to reduce our licensing fees substantially for our GRAHAM100 partners. We have a wide range of dances available and will partner with you to find one that will enhance your programming while also being part of a worldwide celebration. Whether you are highlighting women choreographers or leaning into themes about social activism, myth or modernism, we have iconic ballets that resonate deeply with contemporary programming.

JOIN OUR WORLDWIDE LAMENTATION VARIATIONS PROJECT

This project asks you to commission three short (4 minute) dances for your dancers from the professional or student choreographers of your choice. Each variation is inspired by a film of Martha Graham dancing her iconic solo Lamentation, but uses any of the new styles of today’s choreographers. In performance, audiences see the film of Martha followed by the three variations. Licensing fees are very affordable for this project. Our goal for GRAHAM100 is to have new Lamentation Variations performed around the world.

CREATE A NEW WORK INSPIRED BY GRAHAM’S AMERICAN DOCUMENT

Our Own American Document is a creative project inspired by a Graham work from 1938, American Document. In answer to the rise of fascism in Europe, Graham wove excerpts from essential American texts into a dance about democracy and the American identity asking, “What is an American?”

Little remains of Graham’s original choreography, but her themes resonate anew within today’s conversations about race, gender, nationalism and how we each see ourselves as part of the evolving American story.

A range of support materials are available that lead participants through the process of creating their own group dance/drama – using Graham’s script or choosing their own.  From archival materials that may be used as inspiration by professional choreographers to detailed lesson plans for K-12 teachers, this creative blueprint inspires collaboration, creativity, social awareness and self-empowerment.  Licensing fees are affordable at any level.
