Graham II, the dance troupe for the Martha Graham School of Dance, was founded by Yuriko in 1983 (as the Martha Graham Ensemble) at the request of Martha Graham. Its mission is to bring fresh energy, passion, and vision to the brilliant tradition of Martha Graham. The dancers have been selected from among the hundreds of students from across the world who study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. Members are chosen by audition. While in Graham II, dancers are supported by a scholarship and may be given the opportunity to perform with the Martha Graham Dance Company.
Graham II performs Martha Graham’s repertory and the works of choreographers within the Graham tradition, and is highly committed to its arts outreach programs that are conducted all year long throughout the New York City public school system.
